SCC Wk 4 Update/ Wk 5 Goals and a 21 Day Challenge!

Okay people it’s time to buckle down and take action.  There is no more time to waste being lazy and making excuses.  I have about 27 days until I leave for Thailand.  HOT and HUMID Thailand, where I won’t want to be wearing a lot of hot clothes.  I need to face the music that my weight has gone up 2 pounds instead of down 2 pounds.  I have let the last month slip by with nothing to show for it.  Granted I was sick and the kid was sick, but I can’t let that stop me from taking care of myself.

My weight is 220.  I have not been eating so great the in the last week and that number clearly shows it.  I reached out for help last week and only got one response.  Kind of disappointing, but it is what it is.  Knowing I only have one month to get my act together has inspired me to make exercise a priority.  So with that being said my SCC goals for the week are:

Exercise in some way 6 days this week.

I did a run/walk for 30 minutes yesterday. I plan to do this on Thursday too.
Today I have walked for 30 minutes at work during break (10 min) and lunch (20 min). I plan to do this every day this week.
I plan to do some weight exercises when I get home from work today and later in the week an exercise video or Wii workout.

Eat healthy meals and snacks.  A treat should be a rare thing and not and everyday thing.

I saw on a fellow SCC challenger’s blog the 21 day challenge which I am going to join.

You can find it here.  The 21 day challenge for me will involve the two things listed above.  I hope the 21 day challenge will help me stay focused and after 21 days it should become a habit (if what they say is true).

Where is my mojo?

I’ve been in a January funk.  I can’t seem to break free of it either.  I am STILL sick.  Two and a half weeks now and it’s messing with my healthy mojo. I only have about 4 ½ weeks until my trip to Thailand all I have done is maintain.  It sucks.  I really want to lose more weight before I go, but that other part of me still wants to eat everything I have been eating too.  Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t been going overboard, but I haven’t been doing what I need to in order to lose more weight.  Yesterday the scale finally moved down to 217.4 from 218.8, but today it was up a little again.  I just know this is all related to me being sick.  I need to find the mojo I had in the CDCC challenge.  I lost 15 pounds during that challenge and about 25 since I started this blog.  In the last three weeks I’ve been maintaining.  Maybe this is my plateau weight.  I need to jumpstart myself, but I don’t really know how.  Anyone have any advice?

My immune system isn't up to par.

Wednesday I was feeling pretty good thinking my cold was on its way out. Then Thursday it decided to start all over again.  I am back to square one with another cold.  I wasn’t completely over the first one yet.  UGHHHHHHH.  I feel awful again.  I did get in one run on Tuesday this week but didn’t get one in today because of this stupid cold.  I feel like such a slacker and I don’t want to be.  I want to exercise and lose this weight and this cold is holding me back.  It’s also supposed to rain this weekend so I will probably just rest at home under the blankets while my kids run around the house.

My son had a very whiny night Wednesday.  I didn’t know why he was moaning and then I pick him up from daycare and they say he might have an ear infection.  Great, add it to the list of things going on with him.  Luckily we had the backup prescription for antibiotics we didn’t use before so we just went and got that filled and started him out on that.  He has a doctor’s appointment on Monday where we hope to get a referral to a pulmonologist.  I don’t know why it seems so hard to get to see one.  You would have thought after two hospital stays with upper respiratory issues we would have seen one last year, but we never pushed it.  Now we want him to see one and see if they can help us get a game plan so he doesn’t get pneumonia again.  I don’t want his lungs wrecked from multiple pneumonias.  Our medical system is supposed be so great, but it seems that the doctors just want to treat the current problem and not see what they can do to help you prevent it.

Okay I’m done venting and sounding like a big whiner.

SCC Week 2 update

Nothing miraculous to report from me.  My son is doing much better.  My cold is slowing going away.  I am not fully well yet, but I’m well enough to start getting some exercise back into my week.  Saturday I did a few things with my exercise ball, then I went on a short run/walk on Sunday and I plan to do it again tomorrow morning.  I really need to light a fire under my butt so I can be closer to “onederland” when I go to Thailand.  It’s going to be hot and sticky there and I want to be able to feel more confident in shorts and t-shirts.
My weight stayed the same this week; I’m not surprised considering I was sick and didn’t get any substantial exercise in.  I hope next week I will show a nice loss.

My goals for this week:
Exercise 4-5 days. (run/walking, exercise video, weights)
Drink at least 64oz of water a day.
Eat only healthy snacks.

I hope you all are doing great.

Still Sick

Well, I still have a cold.  My son is getting much better.  He still coughs once in awhile, but his antibiotics are ending today.  That scares me a little since he is still coughing.  I hope that he doesn’t have a relapse.  I haven’t done any organized exercise this week.  I did take a few walks at work and a little light weights at home.  No running this week due to my cold.  I am looking forward to getting better so I can get some exercise in.  I haven’t been around to your blogs this week, but I hope next week is better.  Thank you to all those who have left me comments and encouragement this week.  I’ll be back in a couple of days with my SCC week 2 weigh in.

SCC Week 1 Update

I must admit I really didn't focus on my goals this week.  I only got in one run this week and no other exercise.  I hope that this week I will get more sleep and be able to focus more on my exercise.

My goals this week are to:
Drink 64 ounces of water a day.
Exercise 4 days (3 runs and at least one other workout)
Eat more fruits and veggies.

Weight last week: 222
My weight today was 218.8

This isn't as great a loss as it seems.  My initial weigh in last week was 2 pounds higher than I had been holding at.  It was the day after new years  where I had eaten more than normal.  So I'll take the 1.2 pound loss that I really think happened this week.

I really didn't focus on weight loss this week.  I had other things on my mind with my son's coughing fits and such.  We took him to urgent care (3.5 hours) on Friday morning and he was diagnosed with Pneumonia and given a prescription for antibiotics.  Well he threw up 3 out of 5 times taking it so Saturday night my husband took him back to urgent care(3 hours) to see if we could get another antibiotic prescription.  He came home with an anti nausea medicine and another antibiotic prescription just in case.  My son had a pretty good night sleep and a great 3 hour nap today.  He isn't coughing near as much as he was and it seems that the antibiotics are kicking in.  I hope it clears it up this time.  It's exhausting having a chronic coughing child who doesn't really understand why he is coughing so much.  He also doesn't cover his mouth when he coughs and I feel like I might be getting sick.  I hope it's just sinus allergy stuff but who knows.

Sorry this isn't very inspired tonight, but I just don't have it in me.  I hope you all have a great week.

Sleep deprived

I don’t have much to report on the exercise and weight loss side of things.  My weight has gone down since my initial SCC post.  I knew it would.  I will post the official number this weekend when I check in.  I have only gotten in one run this week due to being so tired in the morning.

My son has been coughing some more.  He started to get better when he was taking the antibiotics and oral steroids, but they were only for 4 days.  His cough has come back more often and he has had a fever for the last couple of days.  We have had a rough two nights with broken sleep due to his coughing and fever.  My husband is taking him back to urgent care today to see what they can do or figure out.  I know I said it before, but it’s so hard having a small child who is sick and they really can’t share all the feelings they have going on with their body.  I don’t want him to end up with another hospital stay.

We finally bought our plane tickets for Thailand.  It is a reality now.  We will be there end of February into first week of March.  My husband will celebrate his birthday the day we arrive which will be really nice for his parents to get to be there for that.  I really hope my son can get over this whole cough thing.  That is something we don’t want to have to deal with while traveling in a foreign country.  Please keep my son in your prayers that the doctors can figure out what is going on with him and he gets over this.

Spring Chick Challenge (SCC) initial post

Hello All, Happy New Year! I hope you are ready to take on this challenge.  I know I am.  I was very lax during the last two weeks since the CDCC challenge ended.  I have managed to maintain pretty well and not gain a bunch so that is good.  Here goes the basics of this challenge.

1. Commit to a NSV (non scale victory) to be assessed at the start and the end of the challenge.
1.       Improve my 5k time.  Current 5k time is 42:11.
2.       Fit into my size 16 jeans comfortably. Currently wear size 18.

2. Commit to a set of nutrition parameters.
1.       Cut out diet soda. I don’t drink it very often, but why not cut it out completely.
2.       Drink at least 64oz of water a day.
3.       Reduce the amount of processed foods.
4.       Eat more veggies

3. Commit to a set of exercise parameters.
1.       Run/walk 2-3 times per week.
2.       Strength train 2 times per week with weights or an exercise video.

4. Commit to blogging at least twice weekly and one of those times must be your check in with a complete update on your progress.  All other blogs could include new insights, results of weekly challenges, or just letting others know how you are doing.  Will do!

5. Commit to support both giving and receiving.  Check other blogs and comment as you feel motivated to do.  Will do!

These are the goals as they stand now.  They might change or refine, but it’s a starting point.  I’m looking forward to losing some more weight and getting into “ONEderland”.

My starting weight is: 222  (yes I managed to gain 2 pounds, but the I think it all came from this weekend.  I ate more than I normally do since I stayed up to ring in the new year.  I was at 220.6 on Saturday morning. haha  Back at it now and ready to get down and into "ONE"derland.
