The Weekend

I needed to finish my week 3 workout for 5k in 100 days so I set out with the kids in the stroller on Saturday morning.  5 minutes into my warmup and I was reminded why I don't like to take the kids on my workouts.  We barely got around the corner from home and Little Man states he has to go potty.  We have been working on potty training and I wasn't about to ignore his request to pee.  So I had to get him out of the stroller and do his business behind a bush.

So I put him back in the stroller all the while he is complaining he doesn't want to be in the stroller.  I plead with him that mommy is going to be walking really fast so he won't be able to keep up.  So off I go and not 5 minutes later. Little lady is crying, no doubt over something Little Man has done to her.  This peace and then crying happens the whole way.  I was constantly telling Little Man to give things back to Little Lady and not pushing her or sitting on her, etc.  I had to stop several times to restore peace to the stroller.

Not only was I with the kids on this workout it was the longest distance I have done so far.  I had about 20 minutes left in my workout and the kids finally crash out.  Ahhh peace has been restored to my workout.  I finish my workout in lovely silence. Here are a few pictures after the workout.
Me after the run.

Peace in the stroller

Later that morning we all went to the swapmeet to see if we could find a used double jogging stroller. No luck in that, but we saw some animals for sell.

We then went to lunch and picked up some clothes for my husband, then home for a nap.  Pretty nice day overall.

Today we woke up to rain.  It hasn't rained in awhile and it was a welcome addition to the day.  We went to Church, then lunch, then home for yet another afternoon nap.

My legs are a little sore from yesterdays workout.  I guess that's a good sign that I had a good workout.  Tomorrow starts week 4 of 5k in 100 days.  By workout three I will be running for 2 minutes at a time.  I still haven't managed to add in extra workouts the days I'm not running.  This is something I must do if I expect to lose more weight.  I would love to be in onederland by January!

It's My Anniversary!

Today is my 5 year anniversary!  I can’t believe it’s been 5 years already.  It seems that time goes by faster the older I get.  He gave me a wonderful picture frame that says “I DO” at the top and at the bottom it says “The best words I've said so far” with “5 years” below that.  He put the picture we took in May in the frame.  It was beautiful! Not sure why the little indent is showing on the top left.  It's not on the frame.  It's a mirror around the edges so I couldn't get a good picture of the bottom saying.

The husband and I both have to work today, me during the day and my husband tonight so we won’t get to really celebrate today.  However, my wonderful husband is meeting me for lunch today.  We will be getting a weekend away next weekend.  I’m really looking forward to spending two whole days just the two of us.  My brother will be watching the kids.  Woot woot!
I did 5k in 100 W3.2 yesterday.  It was slightly easier than W3.1, but I was definitely tired afterwards.  It was approximately 2.6 miles total.  Tomorrow is W3.3 and I think I will get in the full 5k distance.  I have been at this running thing for a few months now and my husband decided to give me these little coupons for our anniversary.  There are about 5 or so that say something to the effect of redeem for doing the dishes with 12 minute mile, 11 minute mile, 10 minute mile and so on.  He’s funny!!

I think I would have been more motivated to do a 12 minute mile if it said redeem for cleaning the bathroom. Haha He did give me one redeem for cleaning the bathrooms with no restrictions placed on it. I was excited about that since we both HATE cleaning the bathroom.
Have a great day!

Weigh in Wednesday

I didn’t weigh in last week, well I did weigh, but I didn’t post it.  I didn’t like what the evil scale said.  However, I am down 1 pound from two weeks ago.  It’s not much, but it’s something.  I need to get my butt in gear and exercise more.  My three days a week for 5k in 100 just isn’t cutting it.  I need to fit some more exercise in on the other days.  Maybe tonight I’ll try to get in some Zumba or Wii.

I did W3.1 for 5k in 100 yesterday.  It was 20 minute fast walk and then we moved from 1:15 run to 1:30 run.  I know that 15 seconds isn’t much more time, but it was hard.  It was all I could do to pick my legs up and finish my intervals.  I’m sure the intervals will get easier the more times I do it, but as of right now….I don’t see myself wanting to run for long periods of time.  I think this has a lot to do with the fact that I’m carrying around 100 extra pounds on my body.  The lighter I get the easier it will become.  I WILL NOT GIVE UP!  I am determined to continue on the 5k in 100 days program.  I won’t know if I truly like running unless I give it a fair shot.  It’s also great exercise and getting me up and moving which I haven’t had much success doing in the past.  Here’s to not giving up this time!

Do Life Meet Up

So I went to the Do Life Meet Up on Saturday.  It was awesome.  There were about 85 people or so who showed up to walk/ bike/ or run the 5k.  I walked half of it and the other half I did run / walk intervals for my 5k in 100 days training.  It's amazing the community feeling you get with complete strangers when you are all in one place for the same reason.  I didn't know any of the people there, but everyone was so friendly.  By having the Do Life shirt on I was part of a team.  Part of a group of people trying to be active and share that with others.  I was towards the end of the group to finish, but those who were done were cheering people on as they finished.

Only about one third of the people went to Panera Bread after the 5k to have lunch together.  We sat outside and got to know those people closest to us.  There was lots of talk of upcoming events people were training for and where people were from.  It was great.

Catch up and 5K

It’s been a few days since my last “real” post and I’ve been doing pretty well with my food and exercise.  We went to the Orange County fair on Saturday and I didn’t even eat the Fair food.  I know that there are a lot of people who go to fairs just to partake in all the different fair food or specialty items like turkey legs and fried Oreo’s, but I proudly refrained.  They even had fried Kool Aid and fried Klondike bars.  But they were $6.75 each.  There was no way I needed to spend that much on junk I shouldn’t be eating in the first place.  We even stopped for dinner on the way home and ordered a salad and fruit & yogurt parfait.  The only real exercise I got all weekend was walking around the fair.
Monday night I did 5K in 100 days W1.3.  I was tired at the end.  I have done my other workouts in the morning before work and this one was after work.  I think I’m definitely a morning exerciser.  Not only had a just worked all day, it was warm out and the sun was in my face.  I did sleep well that night so that’s a plus.
Tuesday night I did 30 minutes of Zumba.  I had won a Zumba dvd giveaway from Shrinking Sisters and this was my first time using it. It is a 45 minute dvd, but I only did part of it.  I’m not really coordinated enough for Zumba, but I did my best to stay moving doing my own version of the moves.  I’m sure if you have ever done or seen Zumba you know what I’m talking about.  It definitely takes rhythm.
This morning when the alarm went off at 5:15am to exercise I really wanted to stay in bed and seep for another 45 minutes, BUT I got up and did my 5k in 100 W2.1.  I was tired during the 5 minute cool down but so glad I didn’t skip the workout.  I have to stay on track this week with my workouts.  My plan is to do W2.2 tomorrow night and then go to the Do Life meet up on Saturday for W2.3.  I’m super excited to go to the Do Life meet up. If you haven’t heard about it yet, you should go check it out here.

 4) If you could travel anywhere today, where would you go? On a cruise with my family, just relaxing and enjoying each other.
5) Have you ever met anyone from the blog world in person? No, but I’m going to the Do Life Movement meet up on Saturday and I’ll meet Pa and Ben Davis from Bendoeslife.  Perhaps one day I’ll even meet some others who blog from So Cal.

Scale Giveaway at All The Weigh

Kenlie at All The Weigh is having a giveaway for a scale from EatSmart.  Go check it out.

Carmageddon

If anyone lives in SoCal then they must have heard of CARMAGEDDON happening this weekend.  The 405 freeway is going to be shut down for an entire weekend.  There is much angst involved with the people who live over there or need the freeway to commute.  I'm not one of those people, however I was looking at twitter this morning and saw the following link.   http://www.bikecommutenews.com/2011/07/los-angeles-cyclists-to-race-jet-blue.html Okay, go check it out, I'll be right here...promise.

Welcome back, so I think this is absolutely hilarious.  I am really excited to see who actually wins.  I am kind of guessing the plane will win considering when I looked up the addresses in google maps it said it would take a bike over 3 hours to do the route.  However, who knows how long the plane will be delayed or sitting on a runway waiting etc.  This is going to be exciting!

HOGGS

Yesterday wasn’t a very good eating day.  I ate too much for lunch and then again at dinner.  I put it into My Fitness Pal and I had about 2000 calories.  This was also just my estimation based on the things I found that somewhat matched what I ate.  Who knows, my estimation of calories could be way off.  Why would I want to pick the highest caloric intake of a food item when I can lean on the lower side of the calorie scale???  It’s a slippery slope counting calories.  I haven’t been keeping track of my calorie intake until today.  I don’t think I want to see the numbers in all their glory.  I would rather keep my blinders on and believe that the ¼ rack of BBQ Ribs and ¼ BBQ chicken with corn, beans and dinner roll don’t really have that many calories.  But alas they do!!  I’m sure if I a made it a habit to track my calories I would realize that the only way I’m going to be truly successful in losing weight is to eat fewer calories….which means not allowing others to talk me into going to a place called Hoggs. Yes, that is where I obtained the yummy ribs, chicken and so forth.  *Insert big SIGH* I should have insisted we go somewhere with healthier alternatives.  We did walk the mall after dinner which made me feel a little better about eating it.  I can’t change it now, so let’s move on.
I did day 2 of the 5K in 100 days today.  It wasn’t bad at all.  I went about 2.3 miles in the 40 minutes of workout time today. The ball of my foot was a little sore afterwards, but I think my foot just needs to build up a little callus.  It needs to get used to all this exercise.  I plan to do day 3 on Sunday.  I’m actually looking forward to it.

Weigh in Wednesday

I weighed in this morning and I am down 1.8 pounds! I am super excited about that since I haven't been strict with food and exercise. Seeing a loss on the scale is a huge motivation to keep at it.

How do you stay motivated?

Food and 5k

I started the 5k in 100 days program today by Brad Gansberg and it went great.  Since I had started the C25K before and was at the 90 second runs it was pretty easy to run for just 60 seconds today.  When I first started it was really hard to run for 60 seconds.  That means I have progressed in my running!!  Yeah, for me.  I'm looking forward to more progress in the weeks to come.  I think I will be signing up for a run/walk 5K in October.

I have been doing pretty good with my eating in the last couple of days. I know I could have been better, but I think most of that is due to portion size. I think that my portion control is probably the hardest part for me.  I'm so used to the American size portions that the restaurant world has provided to us.  It is a real eye opener when you see a "real" portion size.

How do you deal with portion control?

FMM: How Much Weight Have You Lost?  And what have you gained from losing it? (If you’re participating in FMM – and you’re not on a weight-loss journey, tell us about a powerful change you’ve made in your life!)

Well I just started my weight loss journey.  I have tried in the past, but have always gone back to my old habits.  I have lost 30 pounds since having my second child 13 months ago and am on my way to losing more.  I hope to gain more energy and stamina.  I would like to be able to go on a hike with my husband and kids and not complain that it will be too long or hard before I even start the hike.

Uncle Sams Breakfast Swap Update

I went and used my coupon for a free box of the Uncle Sams cereal and I tried it for the first time today.  I got the Uncle Sams Original and I have to be honest here,  it wasn’t great.  It was rather bland and boring. I really wanted to try the Honey Almond because Kenlie said that was her favorite right now, but it wasn’t available at the store I went to.  They only had Original and Strawberry.  I was trying to be good and get the cereal with the fewer calories, but now I wish I would have got the strawberry.  The Original  definitely could have used some sweetness.  My advice for those who still have a coupon for a free box is to try the Honey Almond and see if they have better luck.

5k in 100 days

So tomorrow I'm going to start the 5k in 100 days by Brad Gansberg.  That is assuming he posts the password to get into the first week.  Anyway,  from what I have heard the progression into running is a little easier than the c25k app.  Brad focuses more on fast walking for the first little bit and adding running slowly.  I hope this approach will help me with my knee hurting.  I went out yesterday and bought a band to put around my knee for support.  Only time will tell.

I didn't do the Wii yesterday, but I did go to a local mall that is 1 mile around.  We walked it and only browsed in a few shops.  It wasn't exactly a big workout or anything, but at least  I was a little active yesterday.  I hope to get in more exercise this week.

Well I'm off to get ready for Church.  Have a great day!

Didn't make the exercise today.

I had every intention of exercising today when I went to bed last night, but then Little Lady decided she would be up for almost two hours last night.  I tried to get her to go back to sleep by laying down with her, but she just kept rolling over and sitting up and then laying on me and then laying towards the bottom of the bed and so forth.  After almost two hours of this I had enough and went and got my husband to stay with her.  He knows she was up for at least another half hour, but he fell asleep before she did.  I guess he's lucky she didn't fall off the bed.  I don't have any idea what her problem was.  The last three nights have not been great.  Maybe she is in a weird growth spurt or something.  I need her to go back to sleeping all night so I can sleep all night.  So, needless to say I only got about 6 hours of sleep last night and I wasn't about to get up early to exercise when I had to go to work too.  I hope to do some exercise via the Wii tomorrow.  My eating has been okay in the last week.  Not perfect, but not horrible either.  I haven't lost any weight so far, but I know that's because I have only exercised two times this week.  I have to fit more exercise in if I want to lose weight.

Uncle Sams cereal

Last week Kenlie announced her participation in the Attune Foods Breakfast Swap, which you can read about on her blog. Attune Foods has been gracious enough to allow us to join in on the fun and offer a free box of cereal for us to try and blog about. If you would like to participate too, click here for more details. I will be sharing my week with Uncle Same breakfast cereal soon so be on the lookout for my follow-up post!

Better Decisions

After work yesterday I met my husband and kids for dinner at Sizzler.  Now I’m sure most people trying to eat better and smaller portions tend to stay away from the buffet type restaurants, but not me.  I ordered the steak and veggie plate which included the salad bar.  I think I made pretty good choices at the salad bar and I am proud to say I didn’t partake in the dessert bar.  I was full and didn’t feel the need to overstuff myself just to have some ice cream.  In past buffet experiences I would have eaten the ice cream even if I was full.  It was a conscience effort on my part to not eat the ice cream.  I did think about it, but controlled myself.  I think this is a huge step for me.  If I can continue to fight the urges or impulse foods then I will be all the more successful with my weight loss goals.
I got up this morning and did my 25 min walk/run.  I only did (3) 90 second runs during that time though.  My right knee has been hurting during/after I run.  As much as I want to run and run longer my knee is holding me back.  Maybe tomorrow I will go for a bike ride instead.

The Hardest Part of the Day

I find that the hardest time for me is dinner.  This is especially true the nights my husband works and it’s just the kids and I.  Little Man is getting pickier these days and I have to find something that I think he will eat, but also be good for my 13 month old who only has 4 teeth.  As of late, my 13 month old is eating more than my 3 year old.  He used to eat pretty much whatever I gave him, but he is in that stage where he says he doesn’t like something without even trying it.  Anyway, the kids are usually a little clingy and whiny after I pick them up from daycare; so when the Husband is gone and I’m there alone with the kids I need a quick meal.  This usually leads to a meal that is less than stellar and thrown together.  I know I should be making something better for the family, but I just can’t stand the whining and crying while making dinner.  I need to find some easy go to recipes for these situations.  Do you have any healthy and easy go to meals?
On a side note, I didn't exercise this morning.  The kids had a rough night and I had lack of sleep two days in a row.  I vow to get up tomorrow morning and exercise!

Yesterday

I had a great 4th yesterday.  We went to my parents house for awhile where we ate lunch, watched a few old movies of the family, played cards and played a dice game.  It was a really hot day, but we did have a thunderstorm roll through which only lasted around 20-30 minutes, but it really cooled things off for awhile.  Wouldn’t you know it, we had washed the car before going to my parents house.  I guess we should just call the thunderstorm the fresh water rinse. Haha  We left my parents house and went to a baseball game.  The team won 7-1 and we watched an awesome fireworks show after the game.  My only complaint was that we sat in the parking lot for 25 minutes without moving!  They really need to find a better system for cars to leave the parking area.
Here are a couple of pictures of Little Man (my son) and Little Lady (my daughter).  I borrowed the headband from my cousin who was also at the game.  It went perfect with Little Lady’s outfit.  Little Man wanted his picture taken too.  I saved them the correct direction, but when I post them they show up sideways.  Sorry about that, but they are just so cute you are going to have to turn your head sideways to see them.  haha.  If you know how to fix this, please enlighten me.

FMM: What Are Your Plans For Today?
Well I already answered this question in my post below, but here it is again.  I am going to my parents house for some family time and then to a baseball game with fireworks afterwards.  It's going to be super hot so I'll do my best to stay cool.  Have a great 4th everyone.

Happy 4th of July!!

Just a quick post again today.  I did get up this morning and do a run/walk.  It was about 25 min.  I'm not totally over my cold so I didn't push myself to hard, but I did get some exercise.  I worked up a sweat so I say that was a pretty good workout.  I'm off to my parents for family time today and then a 66ers baseball game tonight with fireworks after.  It's going to be super hot today so I hope it cools down a little for the game.

Another Lazy Day

Well I went to Church this morning and the rest of the day involved more rest.  I'm feeling better today.  I think if I'm feeling okay in the morning that I'm going to try to get up and do my run/walk tomorrow.  I have felt very unmotivated in the last few days since I haven't been well enough to exercise. I feel behind in my journey which leads me to eat things I shouldn't.  BUT, tomorrow is a new day and new decisions to be made.

Still Sick

Yes, I'm still sick.  I didn't do much of anything today.  I tried to just rest and get better.  I napped and went in the pool and hung out with my kids.  The only "exercise" I got today was moving my arms and legs back and forth in the pool.  I know it doesn't really count, but it's all I could manage today with this cold.  I really hope I'm all better by Monday so I can start really exercising again next week.

Starting Somewhere

July 2007

May 2009

July 2010 (baby is 2 months old)
So everyone has to start somewhere and this is my somewhere.  I currently weigh 242.8.  At my heaviest I weighed 272 pounds although I was pregnant at the time.  There was a time many years ago when I weighed 270 and wasn’t pregnant.  I have to say I hate being this big, but it really is all I’ve known for as long as I can remember.  I don’t remember what my weight was when I was in middle school, but I do know that in high school I was in the 200’s.  The lowest weight I can remember in my adult life is 216.  Most of my extended family is overweight, we all love food, especially CHOCOLATE, and are pretty inactive people.  This is something I want to change.  I want to change this not only for myself, but for my kids.  I want to have the energy to run and play with them.  I want to be able to go on hikes with my husband and not complain that it will be too long or hard before I even start the hike.  I want my kids to grow up with good eating habits and active parents.  My husband is much more active then I am just due to his job alone.  He is up and down stairs all day and on his feet a lot.  I sit at a desk all day.  I must MAKE the time to exercise.  As you can see from my prior posts I am currently trying to MAKE the time.  Every day that I get up and exercise is one day closer to becoming more active and losing this weight.  I really think that starting this blog is going to keep me more accountable.  I just got my first follower yesterday.  I must say I was excited to get a follower.  Knowing that someone might be reading what I have to say and following my journey to lose weight and become more active will help keep me making better choices for myself.  Here are a few pictures of me in recent times.  They will become my “before” pictures to be left in the past and not brought into the future.  J
